Honoring Lesley Gore, Chorus of Voting Women Sing, “You Don’t Owe Me”

Thanks Leslie Gore

Thanks Leslie Gore

Rest in peace singer, Lesley Gore ( May 2, 1946 – February 16, 2015) who shined through with her hit single “You Don’t Owe Me” and “It’s My Party.” Thank you for being a feminist and singing such a strong anthem that inspired others. “She was a wonderful human being — caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian,” her partner of 33 years, jewelry designer Lois Sasson, told AP.

A lot of actions have tried to send women back to the dark ages, to restrict their rights, to keep the wage gap wide, but here’s a plethora of women on the Internet singing 1963’s “You Don’t Owe Me” by Lesley Gore. The video featuring a bunch of famous women from Lena Dunham, Sia to Natasha Lyonne was created by Sarah Sophie Flicker and The Department of Peace Project. The original goal was to drum up women voters on November 4, 2014 so that women can take charge of their reproductive and wage destinies, but I think we should keep that momentum going, for Lesley Gore at least.
