Women’s Wage Affects Their Happily Ever After
Brides, what you’re paid will affect your new family’s quality of life. If you want that happily ever after after that perfect wedding, it’s best that you put equal pay on your wedding registry.
Four in ten women are the sole or primary breadwinners in their family. While that sounds like great news, women overall still earn less, which means that even that female breadwinner (and her family) are financially disadvantaged in the larger picture.
Once you start a family, according to Pew Research, mothers are: 39% more likely to take a significant amount of time off from work, reduced their work hours (42%) to care for a child or other family member, quit altogether for family 27%. Doing any of these not only helps to perpetuate the wage gap to do a decrease in experience and therefore job competitiveness, but it actually sets women’s earrings back substantially more than the average wage gap. All this means that when they need to financially contribute to the family, they’ll have to work much harder and longer than before but for less pay. Those are tough conditions to raise and support a family and have it all.
